Both kombucha and water kefir are wonderful probiotics. Just know that they each contain different species. So both are great and your microbiome will benefit greatly. Variety is king!

Yes! I totally agree. Daniel is bubbling up kombucha, ginger bugs and all sorts of things. We’re very bubbly at the moment 😂✨

But how much do you drink and how often to get the most benefits?

We drink it everyday! I think a cup morning and evening is about what we’re doing…

How long do you rehydrate your grains when starting them for the first time? Firm the instructions it seems like you immediately at the fruit and lemon after the sugar dissolves but let me know if that is wrong!

It takes us about 3-4 feeding to get them rehydrated (6-8 days, and changing out the sugar water every 2 days). We don’t add the lemon and dried fruit during the rehydration.

I thought it was a big no-no to add fruits to the water kefir grains in the first fermentation as it can cause mould growth by introducing bad bacteria’s. So for my first fermentation, I only give the grains water and organic cane sugar and sometimes a bit of molasses. That being said, my grains have not been multiplying.

How interesting! It works great for us but we’re certainly not experts. Maybe give it a try on a batch of grains and see what happens. The grains in our kitchen are growing quite quickly.

I appreciate learning from your experience. I have been making water kefir for a few years now. It is a staple at our house. I love it. I use my own homemade grape juice concentrate for the second ferment. It makes a well loved drink.

I’m so excited to try this! But are we missing a step? After the first paragraph in the instructions and before the second, I can’t seem to find what to do with the grains (water kefir) before we add to the sugar water. Do we have e to soak the grains in water for a certain time? Thanks for your help!

I've never really taken to kombucha-- is kefir a similar taste?

I just felt like it was hard to drink. Is trying homemade the best first taste?

I completely agree on the kombucha- kefir is easier to drink in my opinion

Thank you for linking the starter grains! I’ve always made kombucha and I wasn’t sure where to get good starter grains for water kefir.

Is the 120g of kefir grains for 1 liter of water correct? I ordered the packet of grains you recommend and it came with just 5g of grains. Do I really need 23 more of these packets?? On the insert it says to use 3 1/2 cups water for 5g of grains

Basically not city tap water. Either well water or filtered water of some kind.

We enjoy raw milk kefir, but this convinced me to try water kefir! What is your favorite flavor add in?

We tried grape with a few slices of beetroot last night and the flavor is amazing today (24 hours later). Deep, sweet and a little earthy. And the color was ✨✨✨I honestly love just adding grape juice though
